What does it mean to be a registered NDIS provider?
Registered NDIS providers are approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This means they:

- Ensure that workers in certain roles have passed a Worker Screening Check

It also means you can use your provider, whether your plan is NDIA-managed, plan-managed or self-managed.
What is an unregistered NDIS provider?
Unregistered providers have not completed the NDIS registration process. However, they can still support participants with self-managed or plan-managed funding.
These providers are often small businesses, sole traders or community specialists who offer unique or flexible supports.
In addition, they must still follow the NDIS Code of Conduct and meet general legal obligations such as safety, privacy and consumer law. However, they are not subject to formal NDIS audits.
Many participants choose unregistered providers for their experience, niche expertise or convenience. The key is knowing what’s right for your goals and needs.

What to do if you have any concerns

- Talk to the provider first, if it feels safe to do so. Most providers will want to listen and respond quickly.
