Introducing our new series: Ask the Educator! 👋

Choosing an early learning centre comes with lots of questions. Will my child settle in? How will they be prepared for school? What happens if English isn’t their first language? How do I know they’ll feel safe, understood and included?

Over the coming weeks, Ask the Educator will introduce you to the people who can answer those questions best — our Woodville Alliance ELC team.

Our educators bring strong early childhood knowledge and experience, but they also reflect the wonderful cultural diversity of the Western Sydney community we serve. They understand local families, the different backgrounds and experiences children bring with them, and the questions parents naturally have about their child’s care, development and learning.

Through the series, our team will share practical advice and their perspectives on school readiness, learning through play, settling in, cultural belonging, individualised care, safety and more.

We’re starting with our Centre Director, Shery, answering an important question for families choosing an ELC:
“What is the value of choosing a not-for-profit early learning centre?”
For Shery, it comes back to where the focus belongs — on children and families. As part of not-for-profit Woodville Alliance, any surplus is reinvested into our educators, learning environment and services, rather than being returned to shareholders.

Building healthy relationships is an essential life skill 💬🤝
Our latest Life Essentials module – Healthy Relationships helps Woodville Alliance participants build the skills and confidence to develop positive, safe and respectful relationships.

Through practical and engaging activities, participants will learn about:
• Positive and respectful relationships
• Communicating needs, feelings and boundaries
• Listening and understanding others
• Personal boundaries and safety
• Recognising when a relationship or situation may not feel safe
• Knowing when and how to ask for support

The goal is to build communication skills, confidence and personal safety awareness that participants can use in friendships, family relationships and everyday community life.

🌱 New Life Essentials module: Healthy Living
Our new Healthy Living module is now available as part of Woodville Alliance’s Life Essentials program!

Designed to build practical skills for everyday life, Healthy Living supports participants to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing while building greater confidence, independence and capacity.

Across the module, participants will learn and practise skills including:
🥗 Making healthy food choices and planning balanced meals
🏷️ Understanding food and nutrition labels
👩‍🍳 Preparing simple meals and learning kitchen safety
🏃 Staying active and developing healthy routines
😴 Understanding the importance of sleep and rest
🧼 Building personal hygiene and self-care routines
💚 Looking after mental wellbeing and managing emotions
🩺 Building confidence accessing doctors and health services
🌳 Exploring healthy recreation and activities in the community

The focus is on learning by doing – helping participants develop skills they can use at home and in the community to become more confident and independent.
